Natural England 'Fancy a Dip?'

Pop along to Castle Eden Dene NNR for a pond dipping session at Oakerside Dene Lodge, looking for creatures which lurk in the deep! Whirlygig beetles and dragonfly nymphs are just some of the fascinating insects which you can identify! BOOKING ESSENTIAL, TELEPHONE 0191 5860004.

Hartlepool Countryside Event 'Seal of Approval'

Enjoy a 4 mile family stroll in the fresh air to see the seals and other wildlife of Teesmouth. Members of Natural England will be on hand to show you all the highlights of this National Nature Reserve. Please bring a packed lunch, binoculars and suitable footwear. Hartlepool Countryside Event 'Rummage Round the Rockpools'

Ever wondered what lurks beneath the seaweed on the rocks of Hartlepool's Headland? Join Hartlepool's Countryside Wardens searching for creatures of the sea shore. Meet at the junction of Corporation Road and Marine Drive on the sea front.

Natural England 'Bat Night'

National Trust Fossil Hunt

Sunday 24th August 10.00am. until 2.00pm. approx. on the Blast Beach, Dawdon

Join Denis for a fun family event, with a short walk down to the Blast Beach to discover fossils of the ancient plants that made up the coal measures. Meet at Noses Point Car Park, Dawdon (GR438479) at 10.00am. Please note that under 14's must be accompanied by an adult.

Natural England 'Dragon's Den'

Wednesday 27 August 11.00 a.m. - 2.00 p.m. (Open Day)

Join the staff at Castle Eden Dene NNR when they'll be opening up the wildlife garden for you to see some of the amazing dragonflies which inhabit our wildlife pond. Tea and coffee will be available and the Castle Eden Dene staff will be on hand to answer any questions, giving you an insight into the fascinating world of the dragonfly. TO MARK NATIONAL INSECT YEAR.

Explore the countryside to the north of Hartlepool on this pleasant 5 mile amble along Hart to Haswell walkway and back along the dramatic coastline to Crimdon.
